  • APPEARANCE: White to gray cap, shell shaped in maturity with wavy margin. Thin, white flesh. White, decurrent, broadly spaced gills.
  • HABITAT: Temperate species commonly found in North America. A wood decomposing, saprophytic species that thrives on alder, cottonwood and maple trees.
  • MICROSCOPIC FEATURES: Rhizomorphic to linear mycelia; spores white to lilac gray in mass, 7.5-9.5 x 3-4 u; basidia tetrapolar; four haploid spores; heterothallic; clamp connections present; context monomitic.
