APPEARANCE: Conk or kidney shaped mushroom with thick woody textured flesh and shiny surface. Dull reddish brown in color. Polypore with spores dispersed on the underside forming a powdery brown appearance when dry.

HABITAT: Subtropical to temperate species widely distributed across the globe and found from the Amazon to southern regions of North America and across Asia. Wood decomposing species naturally growing on a wide variety of woods, but primarily deciduous.

MICROSCOPIC FEATURES: Longitudinally radial, non-aerial mycelia; spores reddish brown, 9-12 x 5.5-8 u, ellipsoid with blunt end, two walled with internal inter-wall pillars; absent cystidia; clamp connections present; hyphal system dimitic.
